$6.1M Project To Replace Bridges In Waukesha County Begins Tuesday

A $6.1 million project to replace bridges along Sunset Drive in Waukesha County will bring closures starting Tuesday, WisDOT said.

WAUKESHA, WI — A $6.1 million multi-year project to replace bridges along Sunset Drive in Waukesha County will bring closures starting Tuesday, transportation officials said.

The work, approved by Democratic Governor Tony Evers, will replace bridges between State Highway 67 in Dousman to the Waukesha/Jefferson County Line west of County BB, according to a news release from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation.

Work in 2023 is set to include replacing the Bark River Bridge west of Gramling Lane amid full closures of US 18 from September into November, WisDOT said. Sheet Piling Services LLC is the project's prime contractor.

WisDOT said these improvements are coming in 2024:

  • US 18 Bark River bridge replacement east of South Utica Road (February 2024 – Late Spring 2024)
  • US 18 Bark River bridge replacement west of State Highway 67 (February 2024 – Late Spring 2024)
  • Pavement resurfacing along project limits.
  • Guardrail replacement.
  • New pavement markings, rumble strips, signing.
  • Deck replacement on eastbound US 18 (WIS 59) bridge over Fox River in City of Waukesha.

During the work, detours will use County BB, County DR and State Highway 67, officials said. Local access to businesses will be maintained but through-traffic will be prohibited. Officials slated the project for completion by fall 2024.
