WAUWATOSA, WI— The Wauwatosa Design Review Board approved an office and residential tower proposal from Mo's Irish Pub owner John "Johnny V" Vassallo on Thursday.

The new proposal would be 28 stories and 364 feet tall, with 65 units, city documents said.

The proposed development is at 10845 W. Bluemound Road on the site of the former Edwardo's Natural Pizza at the southwest corner of the intersection of U.S. Highway 18 and state Highway 100.

Vassallo withdrew a proposed 20-story, 340-unit apartment tower application in February after neighbor opposition.

Several residents opposed the new proposal, citing traffic concerns and possible effects on property values.

Attorney Joseph Cincotta on behalf of Underwood Neighbors United, a group of residents who opposed the project, sent a letter to the city. The letter said the proposed tower would negatively impact property values in the immediate neighborhood.

Vassallo's Drew Tower was designed to fit within city zoning restrictions to avoid a requirement for Common Council approval, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Construction on Drew Tower could start as early as September.
