Interstate 41 To Close For Over 30 Hours Starting Friday In Wauwatosa

Parts of Interstate 41 around Milwaukee will close starting Friday night as workers demolish a train bridge, transportation officials said.

WAUWATOSA, WI — Motorists who regularly use Interstate 41 around Wauwatosa can expect a detour over the weekend as workers demolish a train bridge, according to Wisconsin transportation authorities.

The freeway is set to fully close in both directions between Watertown Plank Road and Burleigh Street from 11 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Sunday, according to a news release from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation. The closure comes so a temporary Union Pacific Railroad bridge over the freeway can be removed.

Drivers can expect to use Mayfair Road as the main detour during the 31-hour closure, the release said. With that, WisDOT said motorists can expect delays. The state agency asked drivers to consider a different route if possible.

Inclement weather may cause a delay or rescheduling for the project. The closure comes as continued work on the north leg of the Zoo Interchange project.

You can find more information on the closure from WisDOT online.
