The Oak Leaf Trail crossing at North Avenue and Menomonee River Parkway has been identified as one of the most problematic intersections, as well as one of the most utilized crossings in the city. The Bike-Ped Committee requested a 90 day trial to close the slip lanes, the documents said.

The goal of the lane closure is to create a safer crossing by reducing the length of the crossing and conflict area between cars and bicyclist and pedestrians and reduce the speed of turning cars.

The low-cost temporary lane closure will allow staff to obtain feedback regarding the function of the intersection for all users. It is anticipated that design will start in 2021 and construction will take place in 2024, the documents said.
