Wauwatosa Schools Announces Campaign To Limit COVID-19 Spread

The district announced a multiple step approach that promotes social distancing, hand-washing and mask-wearing.

WAUWATOSA, WI — The Wauwatosa School District announced a new COVID- 19 outreach effort, the school district said.

Sixth graders at Longfellow Middle School moved to virtual learning on Monday because of rising COVID-19 cases, according to an email from Seth Larson, the school's principal.

Students in the grade level will participate in virtual learning through Monday.

Some 31 children in the district were in isolation, and 116 were in quarantine as of Monday, the dashboard said.

The district announced a multiple step approach that mirrors the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's mitigation efforts, including wearing masks, washing hands and social distancing.

At the elementary level, the effort will take the form of a so-called “Team Up” campaign, which encourages students to "back up" (socially distance), "mask up" (wear a face covering), "clean up" (wash their hands) and "hold up" (stay home when feeling sick), the district said.

For Wauwatosa middle schools, a “Gimme Five” campaign will use the visual of a high five to remind students of the five key factors.

At the district’s two high schools, a “Let’s Stay Together” campaign will educate students how health measures will allow them to come to school and see their friends, the district said.

New signs in the district’s buildings and new posts will be published to social media on how everyone can contribute to a safe and healthy learning environment, the district said.
