Cheyenne is a place like no other. And whether you grew up here, recently moved to the area or you’re just an occasional visitor, you know that Cheyenne has its own special traditions and history that make it so unique.

A few things to know:

  • Cheyenne is home to the world's largest outdoor rodeo, Cheyenne Frontier Days. It has been held annually since 1897 and attracts over 200,000 visitors each year.
  • The Cheyenne Botanic Gardens is the only public botanical garden in Wyoming. It features over 27 acres of diverse plant life, including a tropical conservatory and a children's garden.
  • The city has a rich railroad history, as it was a major hub for the Union Pacific Railroad in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Today, visitors can learn about this history at the Cheyenne Depot Museum and take a ride on the Cheyenne Street Railway Trolley.
  • Cheyenne is home to the Nelson Museum of the West, which showcases over 14,000 artifacts from the American West. The museum displays a collection of antique firearms, Native American artifacts and cowboy gear.
  • The Cheyenne Big Boots are a series of 8-foot-tall cowboy boots located throughout the city. They were created in 2004 as a public art project and have become a unique and quirky symbol of Cheyenne — try to find all 35!
