1 Dead After West Birmingham Shooting

BIRMINGHAM, AL — An altercation in west Birmingham Tuesday night resulted in a deadly shooting, Birmingham police said. The shooting occurred just after 8 p.m. at a Shell gas station at 800 3rd Avenue West.

Police say the victim was involved in an altercation in the parking lot of the gas station prior to being shot. Sgt. Rod Mauldin of the Birmingham Police Department said the victim attempted to flee from danger and collapsed in the roadway.

The shooter fled the scene prior to officer’s arrival, Mauldin said. The victim, who was taken to UAB Hospital where he was pronounced dead, will be identified pending the notification of next of kin.
