I-59 lane shift in Trussville to impact commutes starting Jan. 6 (abc3340.com) — Drivers who use I-59, I-459, or US-11 between Trussville and Birmingham should prepare for a major lane shift and ramp impacts starting the evening of Jan. 6, 2026. Northbound I-59 will narrow near I-459, US-11 traffic will temporarily lose direct access to I-59 southbound to Birmingham, and delays could last for months as ALDOT advances a long-term widening project.
   

2. Police in Birmingham increasing presence to keep New Year's Eve celebrations safe (wbrc.com) — Birmingham police will flood popular spots with roughly 100 officers tonight to curb celebratory gunfire, drunk driving, and overcrowded venues as New Year’s Eve celebrations ramp up. Expect visible patrols, including SWAT, around entertainment districts and neighborhoods as Operation Close Out aims to keep festivities safe without discouraging people from going out.

By explaining neuroplasticity and offering practical “brain hacks,” she shows how small, consistent changes and smart environmental cues can help Birmingham residents build routines that actually last.
   

4. Motorcyclist Killed in Single-Vehicle Crash in Birmingham (abc3340.com) — A 29-year-old Birmingham man, Erick Ramoine Williams Jr., died in a single-vehicle motorcycle crash in the Birmingport area near Birmingport Road and Templeton Avenue. He was found Monday morning and pronounced dead at the scene, and Birmingham Police are still investigating the circumstances of the wreck.
   

5. Prominent building in downtown Birmingham sells for $10M (bhamnow.com) — A major piece of downtown Birmingham’s skyline just changed hands, as The Plaza office tower—home to Viva Health’s headquarters plus other offices—sold for about $10.55 million to an Atlanta investor. The 18‑story building in the Central Business District is the first big downtown tower sale since UAB bought the Daniel Building in 2023.
