Birmingham Police Crack Down On Street Racing, Exhibition Driving
So far this year, Birmingham police have written over 700 citations and have made 17 arrests stemming from street racing.
BIRMINGHAM, AL — Birmingham police are on a mission to curb street racing and exhibition driving within the city, and so far their efforts appear to be paying off.
To date, police have written over 700 citations, recovered 6 firearms and towed 19 vehicles directly related to both.
After becoming more prevalent in largely the downtown area, police began cracking down on street racing and exhibition driving in February, according to the department.

"There have been multiple operations conducted where we have moved additional resources to problem areas to disrupt and cite those involved," police said in a news release. "We would like to thank the community for providing tips and information to assist in our efforts."
Birmingham police said they plan to continue efforts to disrupt street racing and exhibition driving in the city.

Anyone who observes street racing or exhibition driving are asked to contact 911 or 205-328-9311.
Residents can also provide an anonymous tip through the BPD App available on Android/IOS Apple devices. Simply type in Birmingham Police Department in the search engine of the app store, download the app and then submit a tip. Tipsters can easily upload photos and videos captured on their cell phone.
According to police, all tips are anonymous. The tipster's information will not be shared nor will they be contacted. Tips are routed directly to Crime Stoppers.
