The Birmingham Police Department reports detectives have obtained warrants for two arrests made in connection to the murder of Justin Rasha Lee. Justin Lee was murdered on Friday, October 29, 2021, in the 2700 block of 17th Avenue North.

On Thursday, November 18, 2021, Birmingham Police Detectives presented information on the case to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office. After an assessment of the information, detectives obtained warrants for Capital Murder (No Bond) and Certain Persons Forbidden to Possess a Pistol ($15,000) on each suspect.
On Tuesday, January 4, 2022, Dennis Manning was taken into custody by the United States Marshall’s Task Force and the Birmingham Police Department. The same agencies took Mario Manning into custody on Wednesday, January 5, 2022.
Both suspects are currently in the custody of the Jefferson County Jail.

Homicide Investigation Update

The Birmingham Police Department reports the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office has identified the victim of a homicide that occurred on Friday, October 29, 2021.
The victim has been identified as:
Justin Rasha Lee, (34), B/M, of Birmingham, Alabama.
The preliminary investigation suggests that an argument took place between the victim and a separate male prior to shots being fired. While on the scene, officers took a suspect into custody for questioning. That individual was transported to the Birmingham Police Headquarters for questioning by our homicide detectives.

Homicide Investigation
The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Friday, October 29, 2021.
The victim will be identified upon notification to the next of kin.
At approximately 10:50 a.m., North Precinct officers were dispatched to the 2700 block of 17th Avenue North on report of a person shot. Officers arrived on the scene and observed a male slumped over in the driver’s seat of a vehicle. The male was suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel arrived on the scene and pronounced the male deceased.
The preliminary investigation suggests that an argument took place between the victim and a separate male prior to shots being fired. While on the scene, officers took a suspect into custody for questioning. That individual was transported to the Birmingham Police Headquarters for questioning by our homicide detectives.
We will provide updates once the information from this case is presented to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office.
