Birmingham Police Investigating Fatal Apartment Complex Shooting
Birmingham police said they found a man early Thursday morning lying on the steps of an apartment suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
BIRMINGHAM, AL — Birmingham police are investigating a deadly shooting that occurred at an apartment complex early Thursday morning.
Around 1:30 a.m., north precinct officers were dispatched to 1916 14th Avenue North for a report of a person shot, police said.
After arriving on scene, police said they found a man lying on the steps of an apartment with an apparent gunshot wound.

First responders with Birmingham Fire and Rescue transported him to UAB Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
According to the police department, a preliminary investigation suggests that a suspect fired shots at the victim from a vehicle before fleeing the scene.

The suspect then called police and turned himself in. He was transported to the Birmingham Police Administration Building where detectives said they questioned him.
Police have not publicly identified the suspect. The department will release the victim's name after his family is notified.
Updates will be provided pending a case evaluation completed by the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office, police said.
