Here are the top three stories today in Birmingham:

  1. Birmingham police are searching for a violent shoplifter accused of robbing Millennium Mini Mart. On Tuesday, a robber attempted to leave without paying for some items and became violent towards the clerk when confronted, according to investigators. Police are asking for anybody with information to reach out. (WVTM13 Birmingham)
  2. Wednesday's flash flood event took the life of a 60-year-old man. Around 3:00 p.m., Joseva Lawrence Speed was attempting to get into a family member's vehicle when he was swept away by floodwater in the 800 block of 24th St S in downtown Birmingham. He died a short time later at St. Vincent’s Hospital. (WBRC)
  3. There are more than 1,275 jobs available at The Home Depot in the Birmingham area. Positions include merchandising, warehouse associates, customer service, and warehouse associates. Those interested can apply online and may receive an offer within one day of applying. (Bham Now)
