  1. Melody Sasser, a resident of Knoxville, Tennessee, was arrested in May, suspected of contracting a hitman to eliminate the spouse of an Alabama man she had encountered on Match.com. The investigation, initiated by Homeland Security in April, was propelled by tips that a woman from Prattville was in peril, with associated information circulating on the dark web. Having warned the potential victim, identified Sasser as a likely suspect due to her past connection with the husband, and corroborated threats and stalking incidents through dark web communications and security footage, officers took Sasser into custody. 2. Former Hoover High School sensation, George Pickens, is determined to make an impact in his second NFL season with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Setting high personal and team targets, Pickens aims to reach 1,000 yards this season, earning a Pro Bowl selection, and drive his team toward Super Bowl glory. Previously a second-round draft pick for Pittsburgh following an impressive stint at the University of Georgia and a standout high school career, Pickens' progression at the professional level is eagerly anticipated. 3. A tragic event unfolded in nearby Birmingham as a child was discovered in a swimming pool and swiftly transferred to Children's of Alabama for urgent care. Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service responded promptly to the emergency call concerning the 12-year-old child on Sunday afternoon at Charles Court. The child was in critical condition during transportation to the hospital, and no further information regarding their health status has been released as yet. (Alabama's News Leader)
