- The 2022-2023 high school girls basketball season has come to an end officially, and Hoover High School once again left its mark, with the girl's team winning their third straight championship and fourth in the last five years. The Bucs have been a powerhouse over the last decade, winning five of the last seven titles and eight since 2010. The AL.com All-Birmingham teams were announced and a few Bucs were recognized: Layla Etchison was voted to the first team, Reniya Kelly was the Player of the Year and Alanah Pooler and Kristen McMillan were honorable mentions. - Since the COVID-19 pandemic, there has been a noticeable rise in motor vehicle thefts across the country. In the state of Alabama, Birmingham-Hoover statistically ranks with the highest theft rate with a total of 3,256 cars since 2021 or 292.2 per every 100,000 people. For comparison, the statewide rate is 225.9 per 100,000 people. It is important to not leave your car sitting in one place for too long and to remember to lock your doors as these numbers continue to increase. (The Alexander City Outlook)
- James Beard award winner Adam Evans and five-time semi-finalist Rob McDaniel will take lead on the Fork & Cork Chef's Dinner. The fundraiser will take place on Apr. 11 at the Historic Kress Building down the road in Birmingham, with cocktails served at 6 p.m. and dinner served at 7 p.m. The proceeds of this event will go directly to the Harbor Family Center inside the Benjamin Russell Hospital for Children; the center services children suffering from life-altering diseases and supports the mental and physical needs of the children and families. Limited tickets will be sold at $750 per individual and $1,500 per couple until Apr. 5. (Hoover Sun)
