Here are the top three stories in Hoover today:

  1. The Breast Cancer Research Foundation of Alabama's annual Pink Palace Casino Night at the Soiree Event Gallery in Hoover raised over $115,000 earlier this month. The event was attended by over 300 guests, including many breast cancer survivors, and had a record-breaking fundraising total. The funds raised will support innovative breast cancer research at institutes from Huntsville to Mobile, including grants to Birmingham's O'Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Alabama, CerFlux, and Southern Research, helping improve outcomes for those affected by breast cancer. (Hoover Sun)
  2. The City of Hoover has announced that beginning on Tuesday, Apr. 4, Sulphur Springs Road will be closed between Pine Forest Drive and Pineway Drive. The closing is due to the replacement of a culvert located beneath the road. The closure is anticipated to last two weeks, subject to weather conditions. (City of Hoover)
  3. The Hoover Police Department is seeking information on two individuals involved in a felony shoplifting case at a local business, where they took over $4,500 worth of merchandise and left without paying. Theft of property exceeding $2,500 in value in Alabama is considered a Class B felony. Anybody with information is asked to contact Det. Chambless at (205) 444-7632 or leave an anonymous tip here. • On Wednesday, Gov. Kay Ivey announced that Alabama’s preliminary, seasonally adjusted February unemployment rate is 2.5 percent, tying the all-time record low, down from January 2023’s rate of 2.6 percent, and below February 2022’s rate of 2.6 percent. (KPVI News 6)
  • The Hoover zoning meeting, which was originally planned for Monday, to discuss a wholesale grocer's arrival in the city was postponed. The issue will now be discussed during the Apr. 24 Board of Zoning Adjustment meeting. (ABC3340)
