Here are the top three stories today in Hoover:
- Dr. David Bronner, the legendary head of Retirement Systems for Alabama, is celebrating 50 years as their CEO this month. Many of Alabama's public employees give credit to Dr. Bronner for securing their retirement years with a solid foundation. He's marked his place in Alabama's governmental history and managed to expand the Retirement Systems' funds from $500 million to $43.9 billion, as well as handles pensions for 385,000 public teachers and employees throughout the state. - Around the corner in Birmingham, the city officially shut down its youth baseball league last week due to various teams lacking the required paperwork and non-payment of team fees. Birmingham's Park and Recreation Board stated that they provided each baseball organization with detailed information about the items and fees needed to participate in the league. Many parents have complained stating they already paid the fees, but the board has yet to receive those funds. (AL.com)
- Students in Jefferson County had the opportunity to explore career opportunities in engineering through Alabama Power's Linemen, Engineers, And Apprentice Programs (LEAP) Career Day. The event was hosted at the company's 12th Street Crew Headquarters in downtown Birmingham and each attendee had the chance to hear from a variety of speakers, take part in hands-on activities, and see firsthand some of the amazing career options available to them. Dozens of employees from various Engineering departments helped students explore careers. (AlabamaNewsCenter.com)
