Here are the top three stories in Hoover today:

  1. A bus driver has been criticized for dropping Hoover students off during an active police standoff. On Friday, a Simmons Middle School bus dropped students off near Haven Apartments where they reported hearing officers using tear gas on a suspect. According to police, the suspect Terry Givens allegedly robbed Wells Fargo bank and they were in the middle of setting a perimeter around his residence when the bus arrived. Parents have complained to the district about the driver, stating that regulations should be in place to prevent this. (Live 5 News WCSC)
  2. Have you been looking for a new role? Do you want to get involved in helping the city of Hoover? The Hoover Parks & Recreation department is hiring a senior administrative assistant. This is a regular full-time position that pays based on experience. To apply, visit the City's webpage here before May 20! (City of Hoover Parks & Recreation)
  3. The City of Hoover Planning Commission has approved the development of 200 single-family lots. Most will be in West Hoover communities such as Blackridge. According to Hoover City Planner Mac Martin, the demand for housing in the community has been high. Houses have gone off the market quickly after being put up, and this doesn't show signs of slowing down. (ABC 3340)
