Here are the top three stories today in Hoover:
- A crash at a Hoover Chick-fil-A involving a stolen car on the morning of Monday, May 22, caused traffic delays on Hwy 31. As of Monday afternoon, at least one person was seen being taken away from the scene in an ambulance. Information publicly available so far is scarce, but the crashed car is registered with a Fayette County license plate. (Alabama's News Leader)
- Governor Kay Ivey announced on Monday, May 22, that Alabama's preliminary, seasonally adjusted April unemployment rate has dropped to 2.2 percent, down from 2.23 percent in March, and down from last year's April rate of 2.5 percent. April 2023's rate represents 51,462 unemployed persons, a new record low, compared to 53,017 in March and 57,712 in April of last year. The state has the lowest unemployment rate in the Southeast, according to Ivey. (Alabama Political Reporter)
- A Hoover realtor is in the process of planning a four-story B&B near the Hoover Metropolitan Complex. HBH Realty, realtor Jordan Masaeid-Hosey's company, has purchased a 2.4-acre property at the corner of Stadium Trace Parkway and Mineral Trace, across from Brock's Gap Brewing Co., where the 18-suite bed and breakfast will be built. - Tickets for the opening bracket of the 2023 SEC Baseball Tournament, held at Hoover Metropolitan Stadium, went on sale starting Sunday, May 21. The Tournament's first session will pit Georgia against South Carolina, Texas A&M against Tennessee, Alabama against Kentucky, and Missouri against Auburn, among other match-ups. - Alabama Public Television (APT) is in the process of an RF upgrade to its terrestrial TV network with the help of the Technical Services Group (TSG) from Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The upgrade is meant to prepare APT for the introduction of ATSC 3.0 technology. TSG will be installing GatesAir Maxiva VAXTE air-cooled VHF transmitters at two stations and a Dielectric TFI top-mounted UHF antenna at another, with deployments slated to begin in the fall.
