- Authorities in Hoover are seeking the family of 71-year-old Thornton Womack Lyon, who passed away on Jun. 2 in a care facility. Despite multiple efforts, officials have been unable to locate Lyon's relatives, and even his social worker is unaware of any family connections. Lyon, believed to be from Georgia and a former resident of Diversicare of Riverchase, may have family residing in "south-central and/or northeast Florida," and he had previously listed addresses in Pelham and Daytona. - Saturday's 20th Hydrangeas Under the Stars fundraiser at Aldridge Gardens was a success, raising over $50,000 for the public gardens in Hoover. With approximately 120 attendees, the event saw generous contributions through a live auction, ticket sales, silent auction, and sponsorships. The funds were utilized to support the gardens, and notable auction items included a luxurious three-night stay in Oregon, a four-bedroom condo stay in Pensacola Beach, and a private dinner for 10 at Aldridge Gardens. - Jeremiah's Italian Ice, a popular frozen treat franchise, is set to open its newest location today (Jun. 13) in the local area, specifically in nearby Chelsea along U.S. 280. Chelsea is experiencing rapid growth, outpacing other cities in the Birmingham-Hoover Metropolitan Area and ranking as the sixth fastest-growing city in Alabama. This expansion is part of Jeremiah's larger plan to establish 36 locations across Alabama, Mississippi, and Tennessee in partnership with 3DN LLC, with a unique menu offering over 40 rotating flavors of Italian ice, soft ice cream, and their signature Jeremiah's Gelati combining both treats.
