Gov. Ivey Outlines Plans For School Safety Council
Gov. Kay Ivey announced Tuesday that she is creating a school safety council to make recommendations on securing schools

MONTGOMERY, AL - Gov. Kay Ivey announced Tuesday that she is creating a school safety council to make recommendations on securing schools following in the deadly shooting in Parkland, Florida. Ivey signed an executive order creating the council.
The council will ensure schools have an updated security response plan as well as a strategy for sharing information about potential threats. Schools would be required to train students and school employees on how to respond in active shooter situations.
Ivey also supports legislation allowing schools to use money from a state technology fund on security measures. Money in the fund totals about $41 million that could be divided among state school systems for security purchases.
