- On Monday, the Hoover City Council voted in favor of borrowing $93 million to finance a new I-459 interchange, improvements to the Hoover Met Stadium, and building an arts center. The vote was unanimous concerning the interstate interchange while the council voted 6-1 to borrow money to construct the arts center and to improve the stadium. Council President John Lyda believes that these projects will have a positive economic impact and put the city in a good position for the future. (Hoover Sun)
- As reported previously, a group of fifth-grade girls in Hoover who competed and won against boys in a recreational league tournament did not receive the trophy as their squad was deemed an "elite" team. The mother of one of the girls whose initial social media post sparked the outrage over the incident posted an update, saying that she misunderstood the situation due to a "lack of communication" upon learning that the decision not to award the girls a trophy was not based on gender and that the team's coach was aware of the policy. - Hoover High School senior Reniya Kelly has been awarded the Gatorade Alabama Girls Basketball Player of the Year after leading the Bucs to their third straight Class 7A title with her 25-point contribution in the championship game during which she was also named tournament MVP. Her coach, Krystle Johnson, claimed that Kelly is the best basketball player in the state and the best player in Hoover High School history. (AL.com)

- During the blind auditions for Season 23 of "The Voice," Birmingham singer D. Smooth impressed Kelly Clarkson and Niall Horan with his cover of Ed Sheeran's "Perfect." Clarkson turned her chair about 40 seconds into his performance, but Horan turned his chair in the last second, leading to a battle between the coaches to get D. Smooth on their team. (AL.com)
- Lake Homes Realty and its sister company RealSource Title Insurance and Real Estate Closings have relocated their headquarters to the 500 Building at Meadow Brook Corporate Park in Hoover, taking up almost 55,000 square feet of office space. The companies, which currently employ about 77 people and serve 34 states, plan to add 400 new jobs over the next four years, with 300 of those jobs at Meadow Brook Corporate Park. (Hoover Sun)
