Here are the top three stories today in Hoover:
- Allison Tyus, a homeowner from Hoover, is suing Window World after coming home to find contractors smashing in her windows without any warning. Tyus had to spend several days cleaning up the debris left behind in her home, including glass shards that ended up in her children's bedrooms and even in their toy bins. In addition, Tyus must buy a new liner and filter for their pool due to the glass shards. Despite the ordeal, Window World has only offered $350 to pay for a pool cleaning and has not issued an apology or any other compensation. (WBRC)
- This month, Hoover's Discovery United Methodist Church will be offering a free eight-week seminar series on aging and senior care to help people entering or in their golden years. The seminar will cover a variety of topics, including Medicare, estate planning, end-of-life planning, dementia, and healthy living as you age. The church first offered the "Aged to Perfection" series in 2019 but halted it due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Reservations aren't required but are requested. - Moved by the catastrophic effects of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, David Mazur, a Ukrainian-American high school senior, founded Adapt3D, which uses 3D printers to create palm, wrist, and finger braces for those injured in the war. Mazur's operation involves over 100 volunteers across three continents who utilize open-source templates to create the plastic braces, which are then shipped to Ukraine and custom-molded to each patient's requirements. The group has made around 1,000 braces and is now partnering with other organizations across the world to expand its efforts. (Al.com)
