- Lieutenant Michael Wagoner traveled from Henry County to attend a special training event at the National Computer Forensic Institute in Hoover. Wagoner was personally invited by the United States Secret Service to attend this prestigious training and have the opportunity to learn more about how to utilize a variety of forensic extraction devices and different methodologies and techniques involving cellular and digital forensics. The program is known as the Mobile Device Examiners Course and it takes three weeks to complete. (WSET)
- Hoover High School's Principal John Montgomery's retirement was officially approved by the Hoover Board of Education earlier this week. According to the school board, Montgomery served as principal for more than four years and has been working in the field of education for nearly 40 years in total. As of now, the retired principal plans to step away from education for a while after experiencing a few tough years, despite having received other job opportunities. (Hoover Sun)
- Cytta Corp, a leading software technology company, announced the successful installation of the IGAN 2.0 Actionable Intelligence Management System at Hoover's Police Department. - Hoover's Ross Bridge golf course is officially reopening this fall after a groundskeeper's herbicide mix-up destroyed 14 out of the course's 18 greens late last year. According to officials, the golf course is expected to be fully back to normal by late September or early October. (1819news.com)
- The Hoover Fire Department is celebrating the retirement of Chief Duane Prater after serving on the team for 22 years. At the time of his retirement, Prater was in the position of Division Chief of Administration, but has acquired a variety of ranks throughout his career and even assisted with the city's Emergency Operation Planning. Lake Guntersville is preparing to host its extreme summer event that features some of the fastest boats in the world on Saturday, Jun. 24 and Sunday, Jun. 25.
