  1. At Tuesday's school board meeting, the Hoover board rejected a bid for athletic upgrades at Bumpus Middle School due to the lowest bid being more than what the school budgeted for. Board members report that although the last thing the board wants is for the process to be stretched out, they want to ensure that the best and most sensible deal is met. Following the Bumpus Middle project, Berry Middle School is supposed to receive an upgrade in facilities as well once this is all settled. The 2023 budget also will be reflecting the actual fund balance with carryover funds from the previous year; the board plans to use some of these funds this fiscal year to carry out capital projects planned. 2. The AHSAA coaches' soccer poll was released with the rankings for week 10 earlier this week as not much has changed for the boys or the girls. The Hoover boy's soccer team is currently ranked 10th in class 7A with an 8-6-3 record at this point in the season. The girl's team is ranked fifth in class 7A with a 13-4 record, as well as ranking seventh overall in the Super Poll. (AL.com)
  3. Here is a recap of what happened last week in Hoover high school sports. Last week, Hoover baseball went 1-2 against Tuscaloosa County, losing on Tuesday as well as the first game of the doubleheader on Wednesday. Softball also went 2-0 on the week, with a big win over Springville and a narrow one-run victory over Tuscaloosa County on Wednesday. Both the Hoover boy's and girl's soccer teams fell on Tuesday — but came back in a big way with huge wins against Tuscaloosa County on Thursday. In track and field, 800-meter runner Zachary Cooper finished in second and Cannon Peters finished fourth in the 1,600 meters. Basketball superstar Reniya Kelly also received praise on Thursday and was named Miss Basketball by the Alabama Sports Writers Association. (Hoover Sun)
