King's Home President Lew Burdette To Run For Governor

Shelby County native and former Birmingham businessman Lew Burdette announed Tuesday he is running for governor of Alabama.

SHELBY COUNTY, AL — Former businessman and current president of King's Home Lew Burdette announced Tuesday he is running for governor of Alabama.

A native of Roanoke, Burdette has served as president of King’s Home, a nonprofit Christian-based organization that provides group home residential care and support to women and children who have fled domestic abuse, since 2002.

Before joining King’s Home, Burdette was the executive vice president and chief operating officer at Birmingham-based Books-A-Million.

Burdette joins a Republican primary that includes incumbent Gov. Kay Ivey; former U.S. Senate candidate Lynda Blanchard (who has been endorsed by former president Donald Trump); Stacy George, a former Morgan County Commissioner who ran for governor in 2014; Tim James, who has run twice for governor and is the son of former governor Fob James; east Alabama pastor Dean Odle; and current state auditor Jim Ziegler.
