Here are the top three stories today in Hoover:

  1. This past Thursday, the Senate Committee voted to advance the legislation working to prohibit protesting and/or picketing outside an individual's residence. This is a situation that has been seen in the past with protests happening outside Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh's house after Roe v. Wade as well as outside Hoover Mayor Frank Brocato's home after the shooting of Emantic Bradford Jr. by a Hoover officer. The bill states that it is prohibited to picket or protest at or near a residence intending to intimidate or harass an individual. At this stage, it has received a favorable report and could be seen by the full Senate as soon as Tuesday. (Alabama Today)
  2. Down the road from Hoover, Birmingham is hosting its Inaugural Magic City Mimosa Festival next Saturday from 1-5 p.m. at the Sloss Furnaces Visitors Center. Festival attendees are invited to soak up the sun and get lost in the day of bottomless mimosas, small bites, games, and activities featured throughout the event. You will also see the beautiful historic backdrop of the city while enjoying some of Birmingham's best DJs at work. Today is your last day to buy a pre-sale ticket for $45 before the price increases to $55, with day-of tickets being $65; admission includes bottomless mimosas as well as a souvenir cup. (Hoover Sun)
  3. Hoover's Jefferson County Revenue satellite office has been experiencing significant waits the last few weeks due to a new tax exemption for residents aged 65 or older. The new tax exemption states that if you are 65 and older and you lived in your home for the last five years, you can fill out a form to keep your property taxes from rising. The deadline for this process was extended until Apr. 30 to give some of these citizens a chance to make time to stop by the office. Residents have also been informed that they can fill out a form and send it via email to avoid the long lines in the office. (WVTM13 Birmingham)
