Here are the top three stories in Hoover today:

  1. A 2022 Republican primary candidate for state Senate District 15, Brian Christine, has confirmed he will be running for the District 5 seat on the Jefferson County Commission for this year. This comes as the current District 5 Commissioner Steve Ammons says he will be stepping down from the commission at the end of May to become CEO of the Birmingham Business Alliance. Christine said that after Ammons' decision to step down came out, he was approached by various members of the commission who felt he could do well in the role. (Hoover Sun)
  2. American Airlines recently announced they will be offering nonstop flights from Birmingham to New York City. On Sunday, May 7, the inaugural flight took place early in the morning and marks American Airline's seventh nonstop destination within the United States. Following Delta, American Airlines is also the second airline to offer these nonstop flight options. (AL.com)
  3. Community leaders are calling for feedback from residents as a new comprehensive recreation plan for the city of Hoover is confirmed to be in the works. The Hoover Parks and Public Spaces Plan is a 15-20 year strategic plan that focuses on improving future recreation amenities and programs throughout the city. To gain community feedback, the city will be hosting a series of town hall meetings, which were developed in hopes of encouraging residents to have a direct voice in the shaping of Hoover's future recreational benefits.
