Here are the top three stories today in Hoover:
- A 40-year-old man, Terry Don Givens II, was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot inside an apartment in Hoover after a standoff with the police. Givens was considered a suspect in a bank robbery and negotiations were attempted to have him surrender safely. Police heard a single gunshot from inside the apartment and discovered Givens deceased. The incident took place on May 12. (Alabama's News Leader)
- Destination Hoover International, a nonprofit organization focused on fostering cultural exchange, awarded $2,000 scholarships to Nena Kimble from Hoover High and Sydney Broderick from Spain Park High. Kimble plans to major in linguistics at Reed College. Broderick, with a double major in Spanish and international business at Mississippi State University, intends to use her language and business skills abroad and bring her experiences back to the Hoover community. The scholarships were made possible through donations from Jubilee Joe's Cajun Seafood Restaurant. (280Living)

- Several pets are up for adoption in Hoover! Among them is Iris, a medium-sized adult female Domestic Short Hair cat who was abandoned with her kitten in a Dollar General parking lot; Mayzie McGrew, a baby medium-sized female Domestic Short Hair cat who was born to a stray mom and was living in an abandoned trailer; and Chloe, another baby medium-sized female Domestic Short Hair cat who, along with her siblings, was born to a stray mom and is now learning about being a happy and healthy kitten. These are just a few examples of the pets waiting for their forever homes in Hoover. (Hoover Patch)
- Aki Dale, originally from Japan, shared her experience of moving to Hoover and how it has become a second home for her. She explains that her husband, who was stationed in Japan, brought her to Alabama, and she initially felt lonely and faced challenges due to her accent.
