  1. There is an update on the story regarding the two Hoover teenagers who were struck by a train. According to Helena Police Chief Brad Flynn, the two are expected to make a full recovery. A family member of one of the victims has set up a GoFundMe to alleviate the costs of medical expenses brought on by the accident. (ShelbyCountyReporter)
  2. Governor Kay Ivey proudly announced that four metropolitan areas in Alabama, including Hoover, are leading the nation with some of the lowest unemployment rates for May 2023. The Birmingham-Hoover metro area, with a population of over one million, maintained its position as the lowest in unemployment for the third consecutive month, at an impressive 2.0 percent. Additionally, three other state metro areas—Decatur, Huntsville, and Daphne-Fairhope-Foley—were recognized among the top ten in the country, boasting unemployment rates of 1.7 percent, 1.8 percent, and 1.9 percent, respectively.   3. Hoover Restaurant Week is expanding with the Hoover BBQ & Burger Showcase and a bartender challenge, aiming to highlight the city's diverse dining scene. The showcase is running today (Jul. 1) through Jul. 5, encouraging visitors to enjoy hamburgers and barbecue as well as share selfies on Facebook for a chance to win gift cards. The official Hoover Restaurant Week takes place from Jul. 14 to 23, featuring specials from 27 participating restaurants and supporting the Hoover Helps nonprofit. (Hoover Sun)
