Here are the top three stories in Huntsville today:
- Earlier this week, Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle delivered the State of the City address to an audience of over 1,000 community members and business owners. He praised the city's commercial, residential, and industrial growth, noting the success of the city's defense and aerospace companies. This event was sponsored by the Huntsville/Madison County Chamber of Commerce, and a full video of the presentation is available here. (HuntsvilleAL.gov)
- The City of Huntsville is making plans for a large, outdoor music festival in 2024. Mayor Tommy Battle referenced the former Huntsville music festival called Big Spring Jam, which ended in 2011, and the popular public sentiment to see a similar event in the city. Next year's festival is set to take place at John Hunt Park, and the city is working with C3 Presents — the company behind Bonaroo and Lollapalooza — to organize the event. (AL.com)
- The Madison County Health Department will offer free flu shots at several upcoming events. While the shots are available at no cost, the department has requested that participants bring their insurance information. This Friday, Sep. 29, flu shots will be available at the Monrovia Community Center from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Next month, the health department will make stops at Harrison Wellness Center and the South Huntsville Library. Free flu vaccines are also available on weekdays at the Madison County Health Department from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. (WAAY)
