Here are the top three stories today in Huntsville:

  1. The Huntsville Police Department has identified a suspect connected to a shooting that occurred last week on Bonnell Drive. The shooting took place on Aug. 29, and two people — Sequoiya Mone’e Lamar, 20, and D’Asia Monique Morris, 24 — were fatally wounded. Tye’ Deshun Stevens, 23, is wanted on two warrants of capital murder. Investigators said that Stevens may be in Annison, Alabama or Columbia, South Carolina. Anyone with information is asked to contact Investigator Julian Johnson at (256) 924-1778. (WHNT)
  2. Huntsville City Councilman Devyn Keith has said he will stop operating a short-term rental from his home after he was found to be in violation of city ordinances. Keith said he did not knowingly break the law, but he assumed he could rent bedrooms at his property because it is his primary residence. The City of Huntsville restricts short-term rentals in most areas zoned as residential districts. Keith has reached an agreement with the city to no longer operate the short-term rental and reimburse the city for lodging taxes. (AL.com)
  3. This Saturday, Sep. 9, Huntsville Animal Services will host a Fall Block Party with free pet adoptions. This event will highlight the shelter's "block-head" breeds. Director of Huntsville Animal Services Dr. Karen Sheppard said these breeds may look tough, but they tend to be low-maintenance, healthy, and enthusiastic pets. The event will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at 4950 Triana Blvd. SW. (Rocket City Now)
