Here are the top three stories today in Mobile:

  1. The Mobile Carnival Museum made the LoveExploring.com list of the strangest museums in the country. The museum opened in 2005 and features 14 gallery rooms, a pictorial hallway, a theater, a den, and a gift shop. Also, with Mobile being the home of Mardi Gras, the museum also holds old mystic costumes, trains from queens, and photos of some of the first Mardi Gras celebrations. (WKRG News 5)
  2. Several department firefighters took part in some extraction training Saturday to rescue drivers from major accidents. Seven Hills Fire Rescue hosted hands-on training with participating first responders to learn the fastest and safest way to rescue drivers in these situations as time is of the essence. These situations luckily do not happen on a regular basis, so it is great for first responders to brush up on training and take the time to learn the techniques and apply them when the time comes. (Fox 10 News)
  3. Yesterday was the end of an era as Press-Register printed its final newspaper, the oldest Alabama newspaper that had been publishing since 1813. Last year, the Alabama Media Group announced they would be transitioning to digital, and employees current and former gathered to watch the final press turn. Quain Harris described this as a bittersweet end to an era; Harris has worked for the company for the past 38 years. (Fox 10 News)
