1. 'It's a blessing': Volunteers load up thousands of toys to wrap up WKRG News 5's Magical Christmas Toy Drive (wkrg.com) — Mobile volunteers and sponsors have finished loading thousands of donated toys from WKRG News 5’s Magical Christmas Toy Drive, sending them out to brighten Christmas morning for about 900 local families and 2,100 children. Salvation Army of Coastal Alabama leaders say need is up roughly 40%, and credit the community’s generosity for making sure more kids across the area wake up smiling.
   

2. Mobile County Commission mulls new restrictions on public use of Government Plaza (fox10tv.com) — Mobile County commissioners are reworking a new policy that would restrict where protests can take place inside Mobile Government Plaza, citing safety and evacuation concerns. Activists worry the proposed rules could limit First Amendment expression, especially around City Council meetings. A revised version could be voted on as soon as Dec. 22, potentially changing how demonstrations look downtown.
   

3. Wrecked roundabout prompts Mobile mayor to post advice on approaching traffic circles (mynbc15.com) — Mobile’s new roundabout at Dauphin Street and McGregor Avenue was damaged in a recent crash, just days after its ribbon cutting, but city officials say it was only an accident. To help drivers adjust, Mayor Spiro Cheriogotis released a playful video using toy cars to walk Mobilians through safely navigating the traffic circle and keeping traffic flowing.
   

4. Austal USA lays keel for offshore patrol cutter Pickering (professionalmariner.com) — Austal USA has officially begun construction of the Coast Guard’s new offshore patrol cutter Pickering with a keel-laying ceremony held Dec. 8 at its Mobile shipyard. Coast Guard leaders and other dignitaries attended as the sponsor’s initials were welded to the ceremonial plate, marking progress on a vessel slated for delivery in 2027 that will bolster national maritime security.
