Here are the top three stories today in Mobile:
- The City of Mobile has been making an effort to increase recycling during Mardi Gras, with over 4,000 pounds of litter collected and over 1,000 pounds of beads donated to a special needs school. The city has a dedicated litter team that collects recyclables during and after the parades. Augusta Evans, the school that will receive the donated beads, has raised around $50,000 from recycled bead sales in past years, and the city plans to continue its recycling efforts. (NBC 15 WPMI)
- A man from California, Taylor Christian Merill, was arrested in Mobile after breaking into a car and physically assaulting someone. The incident, which occurred on Wednesday night at Bienville Square, located at 150 Dauphin St., was reported to the Mobile Police Department. Merill was charged with third-degree assault and unlawful breaking and entering a vehicle and has since been released with a bond hearing scheduled for Friday. (Fox 10 News)
- On Wednesday, The Mobile Police Department announced a homicide investigation after an 18-year-old shooting victim died from multiple gunshot wounds. The incident occurred on Sunday evening just after 8:00 p.m. when officers responded to a report of shots fired in the area of Orange Street and found the victim, Keshon Bellamy, lying on the roadway. Anyone with information is urged to contact the MPD at 251-208-7211 or leave an anonymous tip here. (Fox 10 News)
