PHOTOS: Walk for Peace monks make extended stop in Montgomery (bhamnow.com) — Monks on a 120-day Walk for Peace recently spent several days in Montgomery, drawing hundreds of locals to join them at Union Station, Court Square Fountain, City Hall, and the Alabama State Capitol. Their visit included prayers for lives lost during the Civil Rights Movement, a massive group photo on the Capitol steps, and a community lunch at Vaughn Park before continuing toward Tuskegee.

See ornaments by Montgomery students on National Christmas Tree in DC (montgomeryadvertiser.com) — Montgomery Christian fourth- and fifth-graders created the ornaments now decorating Alabama’s state tree in the 2025 National Christmas Tree display near the White House. Their artwork joins 56 trees representing every state, U.S. territories, military schools, and America 250 in Washington, D.C., giving Montgomery students a prominent national holiday spotlight.
   

4. Alabama cannabis advocates, U.S. lawmaker differ on Trump marijuana reclassification (wsfa.com) — From Montgomery cannabis advocates are reacting to President Trump’s executive order moving marijuana to Schedule III and expanding coverage for hemp-derived CBD products. An Alabama advocacy leader welcomes the change but wants marijuana fully de-scheduled, while Sen. Tommy Tuberville and other Republicans warn the move could harm public safety and the economy, even as Sen. Katie Britt declines to join their opposition letter.
