Tuscaloosa, Auburn Mayors Make Friendly Iron Bowl Wager To Benefit Local Charities

The friendly wager has occurred every year since 2005, with Alabama winning 13 Iron Bowls, while Auburn has won seven.

TUSCALOOSA, AL — As this year's Iron Bowl approaches this weekend, Tuscaloosa Mayor Walt Maddox and Auburn Mayor Ron Anders will continue their annual tradition of a friendly wager when Alabama and Auburn meet at Jordan-Hare Stadium.

If Alabama wins, Anders will donate $100 to the Tuscaloosa Pre-K Initiative. If Auburn wins, Maddox will donate $100 to the Exceptional Foundation of East Alabama.

The wager began in 2005 between Maddox and then-Auburn Mayor Bill Ham.

Since that first wager was placed, Alabama has won 13 Iron Bowls, while Auburn has won seven.

“Regardless of which team wins, I consider this a win-win for both Mayor Anders and I,” Maddox said. “Both the Tuscaloosa Pre-K Initiative and the Exceptional Foundation of East Alabama are very important to our communities and I’m grateful to continue this wager."
