UA Museums Announces Slate Of Free Holiday Events

Free events will be held at the Gorgas House Museum, Paul W. Bryant Museum and Alabama Museum of Natural History.

TUSCALOOSA, AL — University of Alabama Museums is inviting the community to celebrate the holiday season with a series of free events at the Gorgas House Museum, Paul W. Bryant Museum and Alabama Museum of Natural History.

UA says the festivities begin Saturday, Dec. 6, when the Gorgas House Museum hosts “Letters to Santa” from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Visitors can write letters to Santa using historical dip pens, seal them with wax and make traditional Victorian holiday crafts.

The Gorgas House Museum — the oldest building on campus — will also hold a holiday open house Friday, Dec. 12, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Hot chocolate and cookies will be served while supplies last.

The Paul W. Bryant Museum will host its annual open house Dec. 12 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The event will see the museum offer complimentary food, drinks and family activities.

Big Al will also be available for photos and guests can write him a holiday card. The museum store will feature a clearance section with discounts on Alabama gear and an additional 10% discount on items.

The Alabama Museum of Natural History will present an “All Day Holiday Open House” Dec. 12 from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Visitors are invited to make ornaments, complete a scavenger hunt and take home museum buttons and bookmarks.

Light refreshments will be served while supplies last.

All events are free, but UA says donations are welcome.
