AZ Monsoon: Phoenix Sees 23 Days With Rain, Second-Most On Record

The Monsoon ends Thursday but there's a chance we could beat or tie the record set in 1896.

PHOENIX, AZ — Phoenix had 23 days with measurable rain this Monsoon so far, the second-most on record for the city, according to the National Weather Service.

The Monsoon ends Thursday, but with rain possible in the forecast this week, we could tie or beat the record of 24 days set way back in 1896.

There's a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms Wednesday night in Phoenix, with a 40 percent chance continuing into Thursday, according to the weather service.

So far during this year's Monsoon Phoenix has seen 3.99 inches of rain, significantly more than the city's typical 2.43 inches. But we're not anywhere near the record for rainfall, when 9.56 inches fell during the 1984 Monsoon.

  4. 1911: 21 days
  5. 1919 and 1999: 20 days

The weather service counts measurable rain as .01 or more inches. The weather service began recording Monsoon rainfall days in 1896.
