- The Día De Los Muertos (Day of the Dead) Festival is coming to Phoenix this weekend. On Sunday, the ninth annual family-friendly festival will celebrate the memory of deceased loved ones and attract crowds upwards of 10,000 people. The festival will take place from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Nov. 6 at the St. Mary’s Basilica Outdoor Plaza. While admission is free, festivalgoers are asked to bring a non-perishable food donation to benefit the St. Vincent de Paul Food Bank. (Daily Independent)
- This weekend, First Lady Jill Biden is coming to Phoenix for events with U.S. Senator Mark Kelly. In a final push before Election day, the pair will attend two events on Saturday, scheduled at 12:00 p.m. and 1:15 p.m.; other details have not yet been released. In addition, the first lady will also speak at the Arizona Education Association’s get-out-the-vote canvassing lunch, taking place at 11:00 a.m. Saturday (KTAR.com)
- On Thursday, the Phoenix Fire Department announced the passing of firefighter Chris Carter. The 35-year-old died on Sep. 23 in a crash on US93 north of Kingman. Carter had been with the department for more than three years; previously, he had played football at UC Davis and was also a member of the Arizona Rattlers 2012 championship team.
