Here are the top three stories in Phoenix today:

  1. The Phoenix VA Health Care System has announced a new director. Bryan C. Matthews will assume the post effective Dec. 18. He served as Medical Center Director of the Gulf Coast Veterans Health Care System since 2018. He is also a retired Air Force Veteran with 22 years of service. (12news.com KPNX)
  2. Arizona State University has partnered with Phoenix Children's to study vaccine effectiveness. The ambitious project will cost about $12.5 million and take five years. The focus of the project is to study the effectiveness of the COVID-19 and flu vaccines throughout different seasons. (ASU News Now)
  3. Eviction filings and rent prices dipped last month in the Metro Phoenix area. According to Maricopa County Justice Courts, 6,408 renting households were facing eviction from landlords last month. That is four percent lower than the number of eviction filings in September. The median rent is one percent lower than it was in September. (The Arizona Republic)
