Dog Leashed To Moving Truck Saved Before Reaching Interstate: SEE

A volunteer with a sheriff's department in Arizona quickly stopped a moving tractor-trailer that had a dog attached to the back.

YAVAPAI COUNTY, AZ — A volunteer with a sheriff's department in Arizona acted quickly to save a dog tethered to the back of a tractor-trailer that was heading towards the interstate.

According to the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office, on Sept. 8, the volunteer was leaving a parking lot after a drink break to assist a deputy when he saw the tractor-trailer leaving the parking lot. The trailer's bumper had a dog attached to it and the driver was heading to the interstate, the sheriff's office said.

The volunteer quickly activated his lights and siren to alert the driver. According to the sheriff's office, the driver stopped and the volunteer told him the dog was tethered to the back of the trailer.

A video of the volunteer's actions was released by the office on Monday.

The video shows the dog running fast to keep up with the trailer. Within minutes and before the tractor-trailer made it to the interstate, the volunteer was able to stop the vehicle, the video shows. Security camera footage released by the sheriff's office then shows the owner unleashing the dog.

The sheriff's office said the driver was "very grateful" and retrieved his pet. He also expressed deep appreciation for the volunteer's efforts.

The sheriff's office said the patrol volunteers act only as eyes and ears when they are in the field but the decision to use lights and sirens to save the dog was deemed warranted by the sheriff's staff.

"The driver was simply distracted and headed towards the interstate forgetting to unleash his dog," the sheriff's office said. "No charges are being sought."
