Fall Weather Headed For The Valley Next Week

Temperatures are expected to drop with highs in the 70s and lows in the 50s.

PHOENIX, AZ — A true fall chill is headed for the Valley.

“We’re seeing a large storm system that is moving into the Southwest United States,” said Mark Olsen, meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Phoenix. “It’ll push a strong cold front through the region and temperatures will cool off some 15 degrees below what they are currently.”

By the middle of next week the National Weather Service predicts the air in Phoenix to feel more like November than October. Daily highs are expected to drop from around 90 on Friday to around 72 on Tuesday with a chilly low that night of 51 degrees.

The expected high on Wednesday is 74.

The cooler weather is only expected to last a couple of days, Olsen said. By the end of next week temperatures are expected to climb back to the mid-80s.

In addition to cooler temperatures Phoenicians should be mindful of particularly breezy conditions next week.

“Think about that if you’re putting up decorations for Halloween or any other outdoor activities,” Olsen said.

This cold spell could mean that the Valley is done with 100-degree days for the year, ending 2021 with 104 triple-digit-days, according to the weather service. But that's not a guarantee. Phoenix's latest 100-degree day on record was Oct. 27.
