Here are the top three stories in Phoenix today:
- Phoenix-based meal delivery service Freshly is laying off 329 local workers. The company was purchased by Nestle in 2020 for $1.5 billion. Due to a decline in subscriptions, Freshly is moving from home delivery to retail sales, and is therefore laying off workers around the country. (Mouth by Southwest)
- Phoenix has committed to allocate $7.8 million annually to bolster fire department staffing starting in the 2023 fiscal year. The increase in funds aims to add 58 positions to the department's payroll. The measure was passed unanimously on Wednesday. (KTAR.com)
- Hushabye Nursery in central Phoenix cares for newborn babies withdrawing from addictive substances they were exposed to in the womb. The facility also welcomes parents and helps connect them with treatment, child services, and housing information as necessary. Tara Sundem said, “Some people say moms are the best medicine. And so if we create an environment [where] the moms and dads feel welcome and not judged, meaning trauma-informed, they’re here and their babies do better.” (TucsonSentinel.com)
