Guns Found In Airport Bags + Short-Staffed PD Can't Keep Up

Here are the top stories today in Phoenix:

  1. The TSA found a record number of guns this year in carry-on bags, and Phoenix is near the top of the list. Sky Harbor Airport was No. 4 on the list for most guns, with 147 found. The TSA found a total of 4,495 guns in carry-on bags across the nation already this year. (KTAR.com)
  2. Over the past year, the Phoenix area gained the most incoming workers from Los Angeles, Chicago and the San Francisco Bay area. As Phoenix continues its rapid growth, it's also gaining workers from nearby Tucson, Seattle, Denver and New York City, in addition to many others. (ABC15 Arizona)
  3. Coldplay is bringing its Music of the Spheres world tour to the Phoenix area next year. The band is set to play at State Farm Stadium in Glendale on May 3. Phoenix is lucky to be one of only 11 dates on the tour in the United States. (Phoenix New Times)
  4. Phoenix Police are seeing increases in emergency calls and homicides at the same time that it deals with critically low staffing. The department expects to receive 10,000 more 911 calls in 2021 than it did in 2020. The department is struggling to replace officers who leave the force. Low staffing is impacting the department's response time. (KTAR.com)
