Here are the top three stories in Phoenix today:

  1. Several locally-owned ballooning organizations united to petition local legislatures to renew the companies' land use permits for balloon launching and landing. The petition comes in light of new legislation that prevents hot air balloon companies from launching and landing on state land. (Arizona's Family)
  2. A 21-year-old Phoenix resident won a million-dollar jackpot when playing at the Gila River Resorts and Casino. Luis Gomez was playing blackjack while at the casino with his brother and won the largest table games jackpot in state history. Gomez plans to buy a new house for his parents and a new car for himself and his family. (Arizona's Family)
  3. First Place Phoenix, a local autism-friendly community, was featured in an award-winning documentary called "In A Different Key." The film will premiere on Arizona PBS on Dec. 13 at 8:00 p.m. "We have made a tremendous amount of progress for young kids that are benefitting from early diagnosis and education, but that population is growing up and we have an adult population that needs the same attention," creator Denise Resnik said.
