Here are the top three stories in Phoenix today:

  1. A new Zillow analysis reports that the typical Phoenix renter needs to work 61 hours before making enough to pay rent. The average rent in Phoenix is currently $2,800. Five years ago, Phoenix renters only needed to work 43 hours to afford monthly housing. According to the analysis, the average American must work 63 hours before being able to pay rent.   2. Phoenix water agencies have signed a pledge to rip up decorative grass to relieve the Colorado River. The pledge is meant to boost water efficiency. The grass that will be ripped up will be located where people do not currently work on it. Grass at golf courses, parks, and personal properties will not be ripped up. (12news.com KPNX)
  3. An early Monday-morning crash has resulted in the death of a woman and the hospitalization of a man. The single-car crash occurred in south Phoenix around 3:45 a.m. near 16th and Mohave streets. The driver was the woman and the man was the vehicle's passenger. The individuals' identities have not been released. (AZ Family)
