Here are the top stories in Phoenix today:
- A federal inmate is missing from a Phoenix prison. The woman went missing early Tuesday from a satellite camp near the Federal Correctional Institution in Phoenix. Federal and local law enforcement agencies are looking for the woman, who was serving a sentence for drug-related crimes. (Arizona's Family)
- Arizona's first indoor pickleball facility is set to open in Chandler early next year.
Pickleball Kingdom will be the nation's largest facility dedicated to the sport, with 16 indoor, air-conditioned courts. (Phoenix Patch) - The owner of a Phoenix apartment complex will pay $1,000 to a woman who claimed that it violated federal law by not providing her with necessary language services. The woman, who is from Chad, had limited English skills and said she wasn't able to make informed decisions about her housing without the necessary language services. The owners must also provide language services to its tenants who need them in the future. (Phoenix Patch)
- This week the Phoenix Parks and Recreation Board will consider permanently restricting access to certain particularly challenging hiking trails on days with heat advisories. The city did a trial closure of the trails this summer and firefighters say it stopped them from doing rescues on dangerously hot days, putting themselves at risk of heat-related illness.
