Here are the top stories today in Phoenix:

  1. A "Jane Doe" who died in Phoenix four years ago was finally identified this week as Laura Jean Jordan. Jordan was found just hours after her death due to excessive heat in July 2017, but despite their best efforts, Phoenix police were unable to identify her. She was buried as a "Jane Doe." She was finally identified with the help of the DNA Doe Project. (Patch)
  2. Three housing projects proposed for the west Valley could make a dent in the area's affordable housing crisis, but lack of political will and unhappy neighbors have already thwarted one of the projects and could cause hurdles for the others. That doesn't change the fact that more affordable housing is desperately needed in the Phoenix metro area. (AZCentral.com)
  3. In sharp contrast to last year the 2021 Monsoon was Phoenix's 13th-wettest on record for June 15 through Sept. 1. The total rainfall for the city this year is already above average, with a month of Monsoon season to go. The season officially ends Sept. 30. (Phoenix Patch)
  4. Are you a nerd? Are you a fan of nerds? If you answered "yes" to either of those questions, there's plenty to keep you occupied in metro Phoenix this month. Some of those activities include the Japanese pop-cultural event Saboten Con this weekend and a twisted tea costume party in the style of Alice in Wonderland at Whining Pig in Ahwatukee on Sept. 10.
