Here are the top stories today in Phoenix:

  1. Some Phoenix-area suburbs are getting more popular with renters even as snagging a rental remains a challenge. Tempe has been a rental-majority suburb for years, but Glendale and Avondale both saw increases in the percentage of renters who lived there over the past 10 years. (AZ Big Media)
  2. Arizona's two anti-mask programs could put some of its state funding at risk. Deputy Treasury Secretary Adewale Adeyemo says the funds from the federal American Rescue Plan can't be used on programs that undermine COVID-19 mitigation efforts or "discourage compliance with evidence-based solutions." But the state's programs are set to provide the funds to only schools that don't impose mask or vaccine mandates and that stay open for in-person learning. (Phoenix Patch)
  3. Phoenix Children's Hospital is seeing a sharp increase in children who need mental health help, which is especially difficult to provide during the pandemic. The state already had a shortage of mental health care providers compared to demand before the pandemic began. (KJZZ)
  4. The two-man Harry Potter parody show "Potted Potter — The Unauthorized Harry Experience" is coming to Phoenix later this month. The show's two actors take on 360 roles during the performance that condenses the events of all seven Harry Potter books into a two-hour show. (Phoenix Patch)
  5. A piece of art drawing attention to the tragic number of missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls is just one of the works on display right now at Arizona Latino Arts & Cultural Center in Phoenix. Its current exhibit celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month artwork. (ABC15 Arizona)
