Here are the top stories today in Phoenix:
- Finally! The third lanes on both directions of Interstate 17 south of downtown are reopened after more than a year closed. The lanes were restricted while a new bridge was built. (KTAR.com)
- The monsoon season ends Thursday, but Phoenix could tie or beat a record by then. As of Sunday the city had seen 23 days with measurable rain this season. That's just one fewer than in 1896, the record holding year. Rain is in the forecast for Wednesday and Thursday. (Phoenix Patch)
- Phoenix police are still looking for tips in the slaying of beloved Phoenix mother and grandmother Shirley Taylor. Taylor, 63, was killed in what police believe was a random drive-by shooting on Sept. 24, 2020. When she was shot, Taylor was relaxing with family on the front yard of a family member's home. (City of Phoenix)
- A Maricopa County Superior Court judge struck down the state's ban on mask mandates Monday. Some officials from local school districts and municipalities are pleased with the decision because they say it gives them options in how to continue keeping their people safe. The ban was set to take effect Wednesday. (Phoenix Patch)
- More Phoenix workers believe they are underpaid than the national average, according to a new study. In Phoenix, 43 percent of workers said they would consider quitting if they didn't get a raise by the end of the year. That's compared to 31 percent nationally. (KJZZ)
